Short of the Week #79: Tick

Been a while since I've linked to a short here, but my friend Ashlea Wessel's 2018 short film Tick premiered on Alter today so here it is below.

While Wessel has been trying to get a feature version of Tick off the ground, she also found time to make another short called Daughter of Babel. For more info, click here.

Short of the Week #78: To Dust

Here's more nightmare fuel from UK stop-motion animator Robert Morgan.

These were fragments used in Shawn Snyder's film debut To Dust starring Matthew Broderick. I love that in addition to his own short films, Morgan's gooey fingerprints are now being left throughout the cinema world.

Short of the Week #77: The Resurrections of Clarence Neveldine.

This week's short is another recently posted short film from my buddy Mike Pereira. The Resurrections of Clarence Neveldine stars the lovely and talented Raven Cousens and is my fave of Mikey's works because it involves a horror trope near and dear to my heart - the Final Girl. Enjoy.

Short of the Week #75: Belial's Dream

Here's the 2017 short Belial's Dream from the incomparable Robert Morgan that up until now was only available on the Arrow Blu-ray release of Frank Henenlotter's Basket Case.

Yep, surreal and nightmarish as per usual! Morgan's partnership with Arrow appears to be ongoing as he most recently created a short film for the Blu-ray release of Jörg Buttgereit's Schramm entitled Tomorrow I Will Be Dirt.

Short of the Week #70: ABE

At E3 this week, Hammerhead Studios announced a VR game called ABE that is based on this 2013 short film of the same name by Rob McLellan.

I'm in. ABE first screened in 2013 so this project has obviously been gestating for some time. In the meantime, McLellan has been keeping himself busy as a visual effects artist as well as making a few more short films (Always the Sun in 2014 and Explorers in 2017). No release date for the game has been set, but this teaser has certainly piqued by interest.

Short of the Week #69: Wild

This week's short film is the latest from the super talented Morgana McKenzie entitled Wild. I programmed this for last year's SFFF and was happy to see it recently hit the Web.

McKenzie has been making short films since her early teens and what has always struck me is her dynamic visual vocabulary. In between her own projects - which last I heard include a feature version of Wild - she works steadily as a cinematographer.

Short of the Week #68: B(l)ackstage

Here is a short film by Austrian filmmaker Daniel Limmer entitled B(l)ackstage that I programmed at last year's Toronto Smartphone Film Festival.
