In addition to the usual reviews and comments you would find on a horror movie blog, this is also a document of the wonderfully vast horror movie section of the video store I worked at in my youth.

DKTM 327

Hey all. I hope you are enjoying your long weekend. I know I'm going to make good use of my extra time. For now, here's what I've got for you today.

Big News.

We got a couple of doozies this week. First, the rumour dropped that Sam Raimi is in talks to possibly produce and direct a film featuring The Bermuda Triangle. Now I know it's not official, but I would love this not only due to Raimi's involvement, but also because that particular phenomenon is so underutilized in film. I'll take this news with a grain of salt, but hey, Evil Dead 4 did finally end up happening in the form of a television show, so hey, anything is possible now right?

The second was the announcement of Stephen King & JJ Abrams teaming up with Hulu to make an anthology featuring King mainstay Castle Rock.

I mean, Stranger Things might have had something to do with it, but I can't believe no one thought to do this before! This has so many wonderful possibilities, and I can't wait to see how this plays out.

Mondo Games?

The artist collective Mondo announced this week that they are getting into the board game business. First up, a board game called Infection at Outpost 31 based on the events of John Carpenter's The Thing.

Come to think of it, The Thing would work as a Werewolves type party game, as well. This isn't the first time that The Thing has been adapted, as I fondly remember playing a pseudo-sequel on the PS2

Hopefully, this game isn't as elusive as their prints and I can actually get my hands on a reasonably priced package.

Dead By Dawn.

The 2017 New York Toy Fair is on right now, and NECA dropped these beauties for the 30th anniversary of Evil Dead 2.

Man, the likenesses on these are terrific. I so want that Deadite dear head! As if I don't already have enough Evil Dead stuff!

Hey all. Today is the big day if you're a sports fan. For myself, it's just another reason to sit on the couch and drink beer. Before that though, here's some stuff to chew on.

Funko Peaks.

In Funko's bid for world domination, they recently announced a line of Twin Peaks Pops for release in time for the new season in May.

I myself am trying to quietly rationalize that I just pre-ordered cute toys based on a show about the brutal murder of a teen girl. If you share the same moral flexibility, you can check out the whole line here.

Super Spots.

With the Super Bowl comes big movie trailers. In addition to Ghost In The Shell and another one of those Michael Bay movies, we've also got a new look at the upcoming space thriller Life.

I have to chuckle about all the fan backlash of this being another “Alien rip-off”. First of all, this looks way more palatable than the actual Alien movie we're getting this year and secondly, these naysayers are off base. I've read the script and it's actually much closer to being The Blob in space. Does that not sound like something you would want to watch? Because for me it does. Life actually has some decent set pieces and it looks like they spent the money to properly realize them. But what can you do, right? Haters gonna hate.

That Girl.

Ahead of its upcoming release (Feb 16th on DirecTV and Mar 31st in theatres) The Blackcoat's Daughter has a new trailer.

I like this trailer a lot. It captures the atmospheric tone of the piece, but is cut in such a way that you don't really know what it's about. It has been almost a year-and-a-half since I watched this at TIFF and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it again.

Hello all! I'm shaking off a video game hangover this morning, but here's what I've got for you today.

What's Your Pleasure, Sir?

While surfing this week, I came across a pre-order for this gorgeous little trinket from MezcoToyz.

Modelled on the Lament Configuration from Hellraiser III, this beauty boasts an apparent 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 combinations. While delivery on pre-orders won't be until the fall, a twenty-five dollar price tag (with shipping) is virtually irresistible. Click here to order your own doorway into hell.

Your Move, Creep!

I found two interesting crowd fund projects this week. The first is for Cult Screenings UK and Dead Mouse Productions' Kickstarter for the RoboCop documentary, RoboDoc.

This doc looks really great and just the pitch video makes me want to watch it again. To contribute, click here. The second is 88 Films newest Italian Collection restoration through Indiegogo, which includes the following films;

For more info on how you can make these happen, click here.

Don't Go In...

Recently, the trailer for Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett's newest collaboration, The Woods dropped online.

Judging from how much I dug You're Next and The Guest, I'm sure I can expect another wild ride. The Woods is set for release on September 16th.

Good afternoon everyone. Here's some genre morsels to chew on.

Well, Hello Dolly!

Rue Morgue turned me onto the work of Bill Butler this week. Inspired by Matryoshka, the Russian nesting dolls that fit into one another, Butler decided to handcraft his own, using pop culture figures as his subjects. Though he has done dolls for Ghostbusters and various Nintendo characters, my favourite would naturally be his version of the numerous incarnations of the Voorhees clan.

Pretty neat, wouldn't you say? To see more of Butler's work, visit his website here.

The Body Count Rises.

It looks like there is another slasher-themed television show (to add to the already produced Scream and Scream Queens) in the works. Slasher will be a eight-episode event airing on Chiller in the US, and Super Channel here in Canada.

There isn't a lot known about it right now, except that it revolves around a woman who returns to a small town where her parents were murdered, only to find that copycat killings have started anew. The cast includes Katie McGrath, Brendan Jay McLaren (who also appeared in the similarly themed Harper's Island in 2009) and Alysa King. I'm hopeful for this one, as I think this subject matter is far better suited to a set length than an open ended one, as is the case with the two aforementioned projects.

For more info on the show, click here.

Short Cuts.

In the last few weeks, there's been a large influx of horror short films that have come to my attention. I mean there's never a shortage of shorts being uploaded to the Web, but there's been a few contests and articles written recently that have kept me very busy. First, there is a horror short challenge wrapping up over at Tentsquare that features several dozen entries, of which three are below.

Secondly, Matt Molgaard over at Dread Central put up a cool and in-depth post about ten offerings currently infecting the online universe. A sampling is below, but the full article is here.

Good afternoon everyone! I've got a lot of cool stuff for you this week, so let's get right to it.

Ghost Theft Auto

A clever little trend on the Web of late is people recreating movie trailers within Grand Theft Auto V. So far, this best I've seen is this one for Elliot Silverstein's 1977 horror flick The Car by YouTuber gigerbrick. Check it out below.

King Me.

Speaking of killer cars, Hot Wheels announced that it is going to be making a replica of the 1958 Plymouth Fury from the Stephen King classic Christine.

I love this. Toy makers make figures of characters from movies all the time, but I've always felt that vehicles are under-represented. Why hasn't someone made a 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88? The Interceptor from Mad Max? Or the 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III (from the aforementioned The Car) for that matter?

Also, you may not be aware, but archive.org recently added hundreds of old MS-Dos titles to their library at the end of 2014. This is an incredible walk down memory lane, and if you are at all interested in retro gaming, you need to take an evening (or ten) off to check out their wares. All games on the site are free to play, one of which being the 1985 text adventure adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist.

I tried this out this morning and died almost immediately. 'Can't wait to dig back into it.

Following.

I don't know anyone more excited to see David Robert Mitchell's It Follows than my artist buddy Trevor Henderson. So much so, he's already drawn an illustration based off the trailer.

For more of Trevor's work, click here.

The Crites Return.

Lastly, this is an older piece of news, but I keep forgetting to post it here. As some of you may now, Warner Brothers is planning a reboot, in some capactity, of the Critters series. Huge fan Jordan Downey (of ThanksKilling fame) decided he was the right guy for the job and made this fan film to pitch himself to the producers. It's pretty great.

DKTM 245

Hey everyone! Hope you've got all your Christmas shopping done and are able to enjoy your last Sunday before St. Nick's annual visit. Here's are some horror morsels to chew on while you hang your stockings by the chimney with care.

Last Year, Year After Next.

A while ago, I posted about a Kickstarter campaign for a 5 vs 1 slasher game called Last Year. In it, five players - controlling characters of various genre tropes like jock, nerd etc - face off against a killer, also player controlled. Well, a few days ago, Last Year didn't only reach its goal of $50,000, but doubled it!

I'm sad this will only be available on Steam, but maybe if it does well, it will be ported to consoles. I'm happy about this development. With this and the two other upcoming slasher titles, Until Dawn and Summer Camp, it looks like this horror subgenre will be entering a renaissance.

Trailers, Trailers, Trailers.

This week saw a bunch of horror trailers hit the Web.

A third trailer hit for Steve Wolsh's slasher Muck.

I guess I'd like to see this for two reasons. One, to see Kane Hodder suit up as his sixth - or is it seventh? - maniacal killer and two, to find out why every woman in this movie is dressed in either a bikini or towel. Not a complaint, just a query.

Here's a trailer for Chris Denham's upcoming survivalist horror Preservation.

Denham's debut, 2008's Home Movie, was a solid found footage flick, so I'm looking forward to see him expand his act. Plus, it's got Kenny Cosgrove!

Lastly, here's a teaser for one of my favourite horrors I saw this year, It Follows.

This is a fantastic teaser that does what it is supposed to... TEASE. David Robert Mitchell's film has everything; a great hook, a great lead - Maika Monroe, who some of you may have just seen in The Guest - and a great score. Make sure you go see It Follows when it comes out in 2015.

Bundles of Terror.

With Xmas almost upon us, I figured I'd post this hilariously horrifying video, 20 Creepiest Children's Toys Ever Made. Seriously, some of these... Wow. Like #14, WTF???
