Another beautiful day outside. We've really got off easy this winter, but since it rained all but two weekends last summer, I figure Mother Nature owed us a little somethin'. Anyway, I'm itching to get out there, so here's what I've got for you this week.
Getting Warmer.
So, up until now, we knew that this upcoming The Thing movie wasn't going to be a remake (or a remake of a remake), but a prequel focusing on the Norwegian camp that Kurt Russell and his compatriots encounter in Carpenter's 1982 uber-classic. Recently, Twitch posted some more news on the production. First off, they've cast Mary Elizabeth Winstead, which I just can't ignore. Secondly, they've populated the rest of the cast with honest to goodness Swedens, uh Norwegians, which shows the filmmakers are actually interested in authenticity. Here's a little vid that my buddy Rob Mitchell tweeted out this week. It's a horror bumper that was shot for this year's SXSW midnight program that would have played before movies like Amer, Enter The Void and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. See it below.

The first is a new trailer for the new Resident Evil movie, Afterlife.
You had me at Milla, but seeing her fighting side-by-side with Ali Larter is doubly cool. I'm glad that they have incorporated some stuff from the games (namely RE4 & 5) in here. It is also good to note that this movie was shot in honest-to-goodness 3D and not the afterthought post process that is plaguing a lot of genre films coming out this year.
The second trailer is one that was brought to my attention by Andrew at Rowthree, for a movie that is playing in his neck of the woods.
Sure, it looks a little rough around the edges, but the idea is sound. Anything that even remotely resembles Evil Dead is certainly worth a look in my opinion. Click here to visit the movie's official website.

Sadly I didn't think too highly of Black Waters. I have a review up for it over at Top Horror Movies Club, if you would like to read it.

I LOVE that SXSW bumper. Nice flow and structure and pretty handsome all around production values. More festivals should do them up to that level.
